Some of the most common signs of activities of daily living (ADLs) include difficulty managing daily tasks such as bathing, dressing, or cooking, frequent falls or mobility issues, increased isolation or loneliness, noticeable weight loss or poor nutrition, and challenges with medication management.
Indicators can include significant memory loss that disrupts daily life, confusion about time or place, wandering or getting lost in familiar areas, changes in personality or behavior, increased agitation or paranoia, and difficulty with communication.
A home environment community provides a warm, personal atmosphere where residents feel comfortable and connected. This often means smaller settings with personalized care, strong community ties, and a focus on relationships. Residents benefit from both professional support and a true sense of community.
Families often use a combination of personal savings, retirement funds, long-term care insurance, veterans’ benefits, or proceeds from selling a home. In some cases, Medicaid or state assistance programs may also help cover costs, depending on eligibility and level of care needed.
When planning to take a tour, some topics to consider asking the community include details about activities and programming, services and amenities offered, dining options, safety and security, pricing (all-inclusive or by level of care, extra community fees), care team or staff makeup, and average length of stay.
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs provides the Improved Pension Benefit, also known as Aid and Attendance, to eligible veterans and surviving spouses. This benefit may be applied toward the cost of assisted living and memory care services. Eligibility is based on factors such as military service, medical need, and financial resources. For many families, this benefit can provide meaningful financial support and help ensure access to the care their loved ones need. At Courtyards, we help you understand the criteria for eligibility for veteran’s benefits. Our team provides resources, guidance, and support to help you navigate the process with confidence and ease.

At the Courtyards we strive to keep our monthly fees at levels that are reasonable and affordable. We offer both private and shared suite options at most communities. Please contact your local community adviser for rate options available to you.
No. At The Courtyards, you do not need to make any long term commitment. All of our communities operate on a month to month agreement with our residents.
The most striking difference of The Courtyards is the quality and intimacy of the care we provide our residents. Much of this is due to the small size of our communities, with no building having more than 18 rooms. With so few residents, a more intimate, personal care plan can be maintained. Also, our nurses and caregivers develop close bonds with our residents and know their likes/dislikes, just like family. Please be sure to speak with our current residents when you visit, and ask your community adviser for a list of references.
Yes. We employ multiple licensed nurses at all of our communities, and have a licensed Registered Nurse (RN) who provides assessments and consultation to our LPN’s.
Yes. The Courtyards is licensed by the state in which it operates in and strives to maintain exceptional scores.
At The Courtyards we tailor the activities to the desires of our residents. In the past we have had – Picnic outings, on-site vegetable gardening, pizza parties, trips to the zoo, bingo games, card games, visits from musical choirs, weekly religious services, trip to Gatlinburg to see the Christmas lights, slide shows, and we even have a Nintendo Wii for those who are up for a competitive game of bowling.
At The Courtyards we have a registered dietitian that develops our menu. We customize our menu to the tastes of our residents, who like most of us, love southern style cooking. You can be sure that we will serve lots of fruits and vegetables, including produce grown on site in our own vegetable garden. Our residents love the food at The Courtyards. Please speak with one of our community advisers about sharing a complimentary meal with us.
The Eden Alternative is a philosophical approach to elder care. One of the guiding principles behind the Eden Alternative is to eliminate the three plagues of aging; Loneliness, Helplessness, and Boredom. Where elders live must be habitats for human beings, not sterile medical institutions. At The Courtyards we have adopted the principles of the Eden Alternative in everything that we do. Please be sure to ask one of our community advisers to learn more about this wonderful philosophy. All of our administrators and activity directors are Eden Certified, even our owner is Eden certified.
