Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. In fact, we specialize in caring for Elders who have been diagnosed with Dementia or Alzheimer’s. We are proud supporters of Alzheimer’s Tennessee in Knoxville, Johnson City, and Oak Ridge.

At the Courtyards we strive to keep our monthly fees at levels that are reasonable and affordable. We offer both private and shared suite options at most communities. Please contact your local community adviser for rate options available to you.

No. At The Courtyards, you do not need to make any long term commitment. All of our communities operate on a month to month agreement with our residents.

The most striking difference of The Courtyards is the quality and intimacy of the care we provide our residents. Much of this is due to the small size of our communities, with no building having more than 18 rooms. With so few residents, a more intimate, personal care plan can be maintained. Also, our nurses and caregivers develop close bonds with our residents and know their likes/dislikes, just like family. Please be sure to speak with our current residents when you visit, and ask your community adviser for a list of references.

Yes. We employ multiple licensed nurses at all of our communities, and have a licensed Registered Nurse (RN) who provides assessments and consultation to our LPN’s.

Yes. The Courtyards is licensed by the state in which it operates in and strives to maintain exceptional scores.

At The Courtyards we tailor the activities to the desires of our residents. In the past we have had – Picnic outings, on-site vegetable gardening, pizza parties, trips to the zoo, bingo games, card games, visits from musical choirs, weekly religious services, trip to Gatlinburg to see the Christmas lights, slide shows, and we even have a Nintendo Wii for those who are up for a competitive game of bowling.

At The Courtyards we have a registered dietitian that develops our menu. We customize our menu to the tastes of our residents, who like most of us, love southern style cooking. You can be sure that we will serve lots of fruits and vegetables, including produce grown on site in our own vegetable garden. Our residents love the food at The Courtyards. Please speak with one of our community advisers about sharing a complimentary meal with us.

The Eden Alternative is a philosophical approach to elder care. One of the guiding principles behind the Eden Alternative is to eliminate the three plagues of aging; Loneliness, Helplessness, and Boredom. Where elders live must be habitats for human beings, not sterile medical institutions. At The Courtyards we have adopted the principles of the Eden Alternative in everything that we do. Please be sure to ask one of our community advisers to learn more about this wonderful philosophy. All of our administrators and activity directors are Eden Certified, even our owner is Eden certified.
